The University Master's Degree in History of Contemporary Art and Visual Culture  aims to train specialists and researchers trained both for the historical and critical analysis of the most recent artistic evolution and for the application of said skills to cultural production and management. The knowledge that intersects with contemporary art and visual culture goes beyond the traditional disciplinary structure of art history and the sphere of local debate, requiring close contact with the general and multidisciplinary debate at an international level. For this reason, and although small postgraduate programs are being offered from universities that try to approach this profile, only the joint action of two large departments such as the History and Theory of Art of the Autonomous University of Madrid  and the  Area of Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts , attached to the Department of Philosophy of the Autonomous University of Madrid, and the Department of History of Art of the Faculty of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid ,  can offer the academic structure and the necessary teaching staff to create reference studies at a national and international level. The association with the  Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía , in addition to involving the incorporation of unrivaled infrastructures and direct learning opportunities, reinforces the role of reference to which this program aspires.
