The MPH degree is appropriate for the student who plans a career as a practice focused professional in public health that does not necessarily involve research. No research project is required, and this degree program consists of 45 semester credit hours. The MPH degree is considered a professional degree and takes approximately two years to complete as a full-time student. Students who undertake their training on a part-time basis because of work or other commitments may require more time. All new master-level students are admitted to the MPH degree. The MPH degree program at the University of Utah is a general public health education. The program has always offered a curriculum embracing the core areas of knowledge basic to public health both recognized from the community as well as our accrediting body the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

Admission Requirements

All international graduate applicants to the University of Utah must meet the following minimum Graduate School requirements: A bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited U.S. college or university or from an institution recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in their home country. The Office of International Admissions will determine if applicants with international degrees meet the Graduate School's requirement of a recognized bachelor's degree. At least a 3.0 or higher undergraduate weighted mean GPA on a 4.0 scale. If the undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, a GPA will be calculated for the last two years attended if schooling was done at a foreign institution, and based upon the last 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) if the student attended a U.S. institution. Other English Language Requirements: 550 on the TOEFL PBT (paper-based).
