In this program students must maintain a GPA of 3.00 to take Honors courses and remain in the Honors Program. All Honors Program students will be reviewed yearly. Any Honors students falling below a 3.00 GPA at the end of any year of study will be contacted and removed from the Honors Program. They are also required to complete the requirement for bachelor's degree. Mathematics - the study of patterns, relations, quantity and space - is both a science unto itself and a tool for many other disciplines including the physical and life sciences, engineering, economics and sociology. Mathematicians use the principle of logic, functional relationships, equations, graphs, networks, number theory, and other mathematical structures to solve problems in a broad range of fields. Career paths: A degree in Mathematical Sciences prepares an individual for various technical positions in both government and industry. Career paths open to majors involve work related to computer software, numerical analysis, operations research, actuarial work, economic forecasting, secondary mathematics teaching and graduate study in mathematics-related disciplines. The analytical skills developed through a major in mathematics also serve as excellent preparation for law school, medical school or graduate business school.
