History illuminates the human condition. It provides the context for defining one’s place in the world and gives meaning to our endeavors against the background of our heritage. Without a historical perspective, we have little understanding of the past that has shaped us or the future that lies ahead. Concentrations within the History major provide an opportunity for students to pursue a more focused program of study. Those who have clear career objectives or wish to go on to graduate studies may find the concentrations particularly helpful. Careers: Having learned key skills in analytical thinking, critical reading and expository writing, our graduates enter a wide range of careers. Many history students seek employment in business, journalism, media, publishing, teaching, government, and public service. Many majors go on to law school or to advanced study in business, government, and public administration. The strength of Delaware’s program in museum studies and the quality of museum resources available to Delaware students encourage many graduates to pursue advanced study or careers in that area.
