The Master of Arts in teaching and learning (social studies education) requires 38 s.h. of graduate credit. The program provides an opportunity for interdisciplinary work in education, history, social science, or related areas for classroom teachers, high school department chairs, supervisors, and others interested in advancing their competence in history and the social sciences and greater proficiency in teaching and supervision. Students choose one of two programs. Program A provides interdisciplinary study in education, history, social science, or related areas for classroom teachers or others interested in advancing their competence in instruction and their subject area. Program B is for students who have a bachelor's degree in history or a social science and who wish to obtain a teaching license/certificate while earning the M.A. degree. Program B students must apply to both the Graduate College and the College of Education.
