Our two-year Master of Environmental Management degree, with its emphasis on natural and social sciences, trains students to understand the scientific basis of environmental problems, as well as the social, political, and economic factors that influence policy solutions. Duke allows you to design an individualized program that will prepare you for leadership in the corporate, nonprofit, government or academic sector â€“ wherever you see yourself making a difference. Our MEM on campus program offers a flexible curriculum with opportunities to take classes across Duke and at other nearby universities. On-campus MEM students elect to participate in one of seven concentrations. Our renowned on-campus Master of Environmental Management (MEM) program teaches students how to analyze and manage natural environments for human benefit and ecosystem health. Students benefit from daily interaction with their peers and our distinguished faculty while completing their course requirements and pursuing a masterâ€™s project. The program lasts two years (four semesters). Environmental Economics and Policy (EEP) The highly-analytical EEP concentration focuses on how markets, institutions, people, and the environment interact to influence environmental and resource policies. It is designed to train decision-makers, those who offer expert advice to policymakers, and those who try to influence policy through the political process. The EEP program equips students to inform effective solutions for todayâ€™s national and international environmental problems. EEP is one of seven available concentrations in the two-year residential Master of Environmental Management (MEM) program. OUR VISION Our highly analytical program provides training in the social and natural sciences for future policy-makers, those who offer them expert advice, and those who try to influence policy through the political process. With a small class size and low student-faculty ratio, the program gives students a strong foundation in the methods needed to analyze how households, businesses, governments and other stakeholders react to existing and proposed environmental and resource policies. THE CURRICULUM All students receive core training in environmental economics, law, politics and analytical methods and tools. To complement this core curriculum, youâ€™ll work with your advisor to choose a specialization track and select natural science courses to build a cohesive and marketable set of skills customized to your interests and career aspirations.
