The Division of Marine Science and Conservation offers the Ph.D. degree in two areas of concentration: (1) Marine Biology and (2) Marine Conservation Biology and Policy. Doctoral students in both concentrations emphasize research as a major part of their degree programs. The concentration in Marine Biology requires students to concentrate their study and research in marine biology and ecology. The concentration in Marine Conservation Biology and Policy is designed to ensure that students receive detailed training in either natural or social science while, at the same time, are able to synthesize information from both fields. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact individual faculty members with whom they wish to work prior to applying to the Graduate School. Most faculty participating in this program are residents at the Duke University Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, NC.
