The aim of Department of Agronomy is to provide students with basic and comprehensive knowledge of crop science and assist students to delineate future career. Under the scheme of programs, students can understand state-of-the-art crop science and technology, learn basic theoretical knowledge and application of biotechnology and then contribute to crop improvement and sustainable agricultural management. The teaching and research emphasize four major fields, (A) genetics and molecular breeding, (B) crop physiology and biotechnology, (C) crop production and management, (D) biometry and bioinformatics. The goal of this Department is to offer students a broad basic knowledge for agriculture industry and pave a way for students purchasing higher degrees.

The institute is divided into two groups: crop science and biometry. The research of the Division of Crop Science focuses on four major fields: crop science, crop physiology and biotechnology, crop genomics, and crop breeding. The research directions of the biometric group include biostatistics/biometry, statistical genetics, experimental design, and bioinformatics. In the graduate program, we teach courses of experimental designs, advanced statistical analysis, digital image recognition and analysis, genomics and bioinformatics, and crop modeling.

Observation of plant morphology and identification of pest and disease are included in core courses; thus, applicants are capable of phenotype visualization.
