The aim of our PhD Program in History is to provide training and supervision in various branches of Ancient, Medieval, Modern, and Contemporary History to graduate students with a solid background in historical studies.
We want our PhD students to achieve deep knowledge and analytical skills, and to be able to apply them to the study of different periods – from the pre-classical to the contemporary age – and geographical contexts, both European and non-European.
Our doctoral board consist of experienced specialists in different historical disciplines, including recognized international scholars.
Our PhD Program, which is based on a marked interdisciplinary approach, is organized into two main pathways, including the following broad research fields: (Pathway 1) Pre-classical ancient Near-East; Ancient history and historiography; Greek, Etruscan and Roman archaeology, topography and art; History and Civilisation of Greek and Latin Middle Age; (Pathway 2) Modern and Contemporary History; History and Politics of European Integration; Constitutional and Administrative History; History of Africa and Asia.
The overall goal of the Program is to train historical experts who will be highly qualified to serve in research and teaching activities, preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage, cultural and media management, as well as National public service and European and International institutions and organizations, including those with a special focus on cooperation and development.
