The BS degree in Mathematics requires a common core of courses at the lower-division level and junior-level followed by senior-level depth and breadth requirements. The upper-division requirements in the major total 45–50 credits. Thus, mathematics major has ample opportunity to take further mathematics courses focused toward specific interests and career goals. Programs supporting interdisciplinary interests are strongly encouraged. Program Outcomes All OSU mathematics majors should: 1. Have significant experience working with ideas representing the breadth of the mathematics. In particular, students should see a number of contrasting but complementary points of view: Continuous and discrete Algebraic and geometric Theoretical and applied 2. Develop logical deductive and mathematical reasoning skills, including experience in the writing of formal mathematical proofs. 3. Develop mathematical problem solving skills using a variety of strategies. 4. Have experience in applying mathematics to solving problems arising in other fields. 5. Develop skills in communicating mathematics to a variety of audiences. 6. Have experience in using computer technology to support problem solving and to promote mathematical understanding.

Admission Requirements

OSU provides direct admission to the University for International first-year. Applicants must meet minimum English language proficiency and GPA requirements. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis with four entry dates. Other English language requirement: SAT: verbal/critical reading score of 500+ or evidence-based reading score of 560+.
