Master of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy

The Master of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy is a highly specialised programme focusing on strong theoretical and scientific insight to provide expert, high-quality care in the field of rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy. The programme trains graduates to conduct evidence-based practice in physiotherapy and to develop expertise in a specific domain of rehabilitation sciences.

Students wishing to enrol in the Master of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy must follow a preparatory programme. The preparatory programme provides the necessary knowledge base for advancing on to the Master programme itself.

Master's programme

The first year of the master's programme offers a general, evidence-based approach to the various domains of physiotherapy and rehabilitation sciences. Students will be trained in research methodologies and their applications. In the second year, the focus shifts to the knowledge and skills related to one of the majors offered at the faculty. In the master’s programme you choose from one of five majors:

  • Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation
  • Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Paediatric Rehabilitation
  • Rehabilitation for Internal Disorders
  • Rehabilitation in Mental Health Care
A 3-month clinical internship is performed in conjunction with the chosen major.

Career perspectives

The programme prepares you for a job as a physiotherapist. As an employee, you can work in numerous care institutions such as outpatient clinics, hospitals and elderly care centres. You can also set up as an independent physiotherapist or associate in a practice.

Furthermore, you can work in institutes for special education, in consultancies and institutes for persons with impaired motor skills, and in sports clubs.
Your degree also gives you the opportunity to work in research or to enter a commercial position.
