The University of Texas at Dallas is a public research university located in Richardson, Texas, in the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It is one of the largest public universities in the Dallas region .  

UTD’s trajectory as one of the fastest-growing public universities in the U.S. is fueled by its bright students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the stature of its programs. Designated as an “R1” institution – a classification reserved for doctoral universities with “very high research activity” – by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, UTD is part of The University of Texas System and is aligned strategically with other institutions, corporations, and nonprofits, including medical school, UT Southwestern, and prestigious universities worldwide.  

UT Dallas is ranked the #3 Best Public University in Texas by U.S. News & World Report , #1 in the state of Texas for International Students (IIE Open Doors) No. 1 in the nation for the most international students on Optional and Practical Training (OPT), and No. 18 medical feeder school in the U.S. (American Association of Medical Colleges).  

The University was initially founded in 1961 as a private research arm of Texas Instruments focused on doctoral programs and later expanded to master's and undergraduate programs. Our 600-acre campus sits north of downtown Dallas and minutes away from global corporate headquarters and a renowned arts district.  

UTD is home to 30,000 students, including over 5,000 international students from more than 100 countries. Th e student body benefits from a residential campus known for academic rigor, career focus, social opportunities, and a sustainable and natural landscape featuring more than 7,000 trees. UTD achieved STARS Gold status for sustainability and was named a Bee Campus USA, Tree Campus U SA, an d Bicycle Friendly University .    

The University is associated with four Nobel Prizes and has members of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering on its faculty with notable research projects areas such as space science, bioengineering, cybersecurity, nanotechnology, and behavioral and brain sciences. UTD's academic areas of strength include science, technology, engineering, animation and game develop ment , mathematics, business , management , and the social sciences.

In addition to an array of nationally ranked programs, UTD is a campus enriched by notable art collections including the renowned Crow Museum of Asian Art and many service-learning opportunities. Last year, UTD students logged more than 85,000 hours   of student community service .  The University’s NCAA Division II athletics program fields 15 teams, and students participate in over 350 student organizations, various intramural sports with 30 club sports ranging from archery, cycling, rugby and cricket .    

At graduation, UTD students are ready for the next phase of their careers. Programs like UTDesign , UTDsolv , UTDiscovery , UTeach Dallas, and the Teacher Development Center allow students to stretch their creativity and work on projects with other institutions, organizations, and companies before they graduate. The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship also provides students at all levels with the tools they need to launch businesses, and the more than 4, 3 00 internships students participate in each year provide them with real-world experience .  

UTD is at the heart of a complex of major multinational technology corporations, the Telecom Corridor.
