Frequently Asked Questions

Not necessarily!  Many students choose to add breadth (over depth) to their academic skillset by choosing a master's degree in a new area of study.  For example, many of our biomedical engineering applicants come from pre-med backgrounds like biology or chemical engineering.  The same is true for our Financial Engineering students, who have varied backgrounds from finance, mathematics, statistics, and more recently, computer and electrical engineering and computer science.  You will want to make sure your undergraduate degree covers the required prerequisite areas of study for individual graduate programs, but you will find many of our programs will not require a prerequisite degree in, for example, biomedical engineering, in order to join our Master's or doctoral program in Biomedical engineering.

No.  Tuition at NYU Tandon is the same for domestic and international students.  Additionally, international students are eligible for the same merit-based scholarships as domestic students.

Our Ph.D. programs have a deadline of December 1st.  Our master's programs all have a priority deadline of December 1 as well.  Master's programs have a general (final) deadline of February 15th.  Applications that become completed after a deadline are still sometimes reviewed at each department's discretion, but this is not guaranteed, so it is very important to apply early and have your application complete and awaiting review by the published deadline.

Yes!  We offer regular virtual information sessions throughout the year, which you can access on the events page of our website:

At least twice a semester, we will offer an event called "Virtual Information Session with Faculty" in which you first get to hear about an overview of Tandon, learn more about its campus, students and graduates, and then the group jumps over to Zoom where department faculty (usually academic advisors and/or department chairs) are awaiting you in breakout rooms, where you are able to ask questions and hear more about individual programs from the faculty who lead the department.  These are very informative events.  When you sign up to stay in contact with Tandon, we will be sure to send you an email notifying you of an upcoming Info session.
